Salatul Hajat Dua The Prayer of Need

In Islam, Salatul Hajat Dua (the Prayer of Need) is a special act of worship performed when a believer seeks Allah’s help for fulfilling a specific need, resolving a problem, or overcoming difficulties. It is a profound way to turn to Allah with sincerity, showcasing reliance on Him as the ultimate provider and solver of all problems.

What is Salatul Hajat?

Salatul Hajat is a voluntary prayer performed with the intention of asking Allah to fulfill a particular need or desire. It is based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):

“Whoever has a need with Allah or with any human being, let him perform ablution properly and pray two rak’ahs, then let him praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ), and then say the following dua…” (Tirmidhi, 479; Ibn Majah, 1384)

How to Perform Salatul Hajat

  1. Firstly , Make Wudu (Ablution):
Ensure you are in a state of purity by performing wudu.
  2. Secondly , Pray Two Rak’ahs:
    • Begin with the intention (niyyah) of Salatul Hajat.
    • In the first rak’ah, recite Surah Al-Fatiha and another surah (e.g., Surah Al-Ikhlas).
    • Repeat in the second rak’ah.
  3. Praise Allah and Send Salawat:
After completing the prayer, praise Allah by saying “SubhanAllah,” “Alhamdulillah,” and “Allahu Akbar,” and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
  4. Recite the Dua of Hajat:
Say the specific dua for Salatul Hajat:La ilaha illallahul Halimul Kareem. Subhanallahi Rabbil ‘Arshil ‘Azeem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alameen. As’aluka mujibati rahmatika, wa ‘aza’ima maghfiratika, wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin, was-salamata min kulli ithmin. La tada’ li dhanban illa ghafartahu, wa la hamman illa farrajtahu, wa la hajatan hiya laka ridan illa qadhaytaha, ya Arhamar-Rahimeen.
    Translation:
“There is no deity except Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous. Glory is to Allah, Lord of the Great Throne. Praise is to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. I ask You for that which brings Your mercy and Your forgiveness, the benefit of every good deed, and safety from all sin. Do not leave me with any sin except that You forgive it, nor any worry except that You remove it, nor any need that pleases You except that You fulfill it, O Most Merciful of the merciful.”
  5. Make Your Personal Dua:
After reciting the prescribed dua, present your specific need or request to Allah in your own words with humility and faith.
